This is the first group I made for the Present Ten collection: a wooden box with compartments hosting a piece representing each past Design Series in its own place. Instead of separating them, the box enhances each piece and works with the theme of each past Design Series. For example, the piece representing Design Series Three is a light with the bulb protruding from the bottom of the box like an illuminator. The top of the box has a hole in it for the piece representing Design Series Two to accomodate a flower. There's another hole in the top for the piece representing Design Series One to allow heat to escape from a burning candle. I made the box with unusual joinery from vertical grain douglas fir—my favorite type of wood to work with. —Tung Chiang, Clay Studio Director
